Appeals
Moderators make judgement calls, and judgement calls are sometimes wrong. This page is how to ask for a second look at a removal or a suspension.
What can be appealed
- An example, rating, or post that was removed under the community guidelines.
- An account suspension.
- A verdict is not a moderation action and cannot be appealed — a rating you disagree with is exactly what the discussion and the highlight system are for. See how verdicts work.
How to appeal
Email appeals@controlverdict.com from the address associated with your account, or the address you used to sign in. Include:
- The handle or account affected.
- A link to the removed content, or the approximate date and section (example, rating, or discussion post) if the content itself is gone.
- Why you think the removal or suspension was mistaken.
Removal is a soft delete
Moderated content is never hard-deleted from the database, and every moderation action is recorded in an append-only audit log with the acting administrator attached. A successful appeal restores the content in place — nothing has to be recreated from scratch.
What happens next
- An administrator who was not the original decision-maker reviews the audit log entry for the action, including the recorded reason.
- We aim to respond within 5 business days.
- If the removal was correct but the underlying content was fixable (for example, unsanitized detail in an otherwise good example), we will say what to change to resubmit.
- If a suspension is reversed, access is restored immediately — sessions are read fresh from the database on every request, so there is no token to wait out.
Possible CUI reports are handled separately
If your appeal is about content you believe was wrongly flagged as sensitive (not actually CUI or identifying), say so explicitly — those go through the same email but are prioritized alongside new possible-CUI reports. See Security for how sensitive-content reports are triaged.
